Introducing the Mid/South Anthology
The first publication from Belle Point Press: COMING SOON
To help orient readers to our vision as a press, our first publication will be the Mid/South Anthology, tentatively scheduled for a late summer/early fall 2022 release.
This anthology features forty talented writers from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, and other surrounding states that comprise a unique part of the American South. Whereas this region is often misunderstood as a particular kind of place, the Mid-South belongs a little bit of everywhere: part Southwest, part Midwest, part South—always wild. Our area of the country is both a space of its own and part of a larger, complicated American culture: the “Mid/South.” In this collection, poetry, short stories, and essays offer glimpses into this in-between place as they explore the complexities of our relationships to each other as well as to the natural world. Whether through vivid landscapes, family dramas, or bittersweet love stories, each piece brings more insight into what it means to be from around here.
As an editor, I’m proud to say that the anthology features writers with a wide range of experience—from people just getting started to three former/current state poet laureates. Writers from various stages of life offer unique perspectives on how our region has continued to shape us as individuals and as a community.
