Although I’ve always enjoyed teaching—it’s in my blood—there is still a part of me every time I’m preparing to speak in front of people that becomes filled with dread. It takes that extra push to get going, but once I do, it all (usually) works out.
I enjoyed leading two workshops/talks recently at a writers conference in Oklahoma City—one about chapbooks and one more broadly about small presses. In both cases, it was interesting to learn more background about various parts of this industry and to make myself articulate certain things more clearly than I had before. Although I might eventually adapt those sessions to a virtual and/or asynchronous format, I thought it would be interesting to go ahead and give our paid subscribers more information about the history and process of chapbooks, plus some reading/writing exercises and a special deal on Belle Point chaps.
